Being a Body in times of Uncertainty -Aspen

Being a body in times of uncertainty.

There is so much going on in our individual lives and as a collective right now. I have many clients coming to me asking how do I meet what is here? This emotion, this challenge, this hurt, this anger, this hardship, this fear…

I believe the most empowering thing we can learn to do is to meet the IS-NESS that is here as a body. That means with our whole selves; with our presence, our breath, our physicality.

Everything is energy in the body, and that energy is either flowing, running its full course and completing, or it is being held and contracted-around.

Contracted anger hurts others and our world. Contracted grief spills out and cuts those around us. Contracted shame causes us to isolate, crawling into ourselves and not reaching out when we need to.

Free-flowing anger creates clarity and moves us to take actions that are in alignment with what we care about. Free-flowing grief, tenderizes us, opening us up to love. Free-flowing shame reminds us of our humanity and connects to real compassion.

These can all sound like nice ideas, but when you start to explore for yourself HOW this happens in your body. How you harden your chest or tighten your belly, and you start to learn to let go of that effort and open up these stuck places, freeing these waves of emotional energy, you begin to gain their power as substance. You get back qualities and parts of yourself. You begin to have the capacity to meet challenges in a new way.

It’s tangible, physical, and deeply empowering to be a body.

I believe the more of us that learn how to be a body in relationship to the IS-NESS that is here changes the world.

When we are in our bodies, meeting what's here, willing to open to our fears, our pain, our joy, a natural compassion and connection to the world arises. We care about other bodies and the body of the earth.

When we are not afraid of our emotional wilderness we don’t contract around it and hurt others. We feel more of the natural world and our belonging to it.

This whole “be a body thing” is not just a selfish self-help hack. It’s a world-changing radical choice.

Let’s change the world, shall we?
